RCB CONDUCTING WORKSHOP
The City of Rockville’s Arts Division and the Rockville Concert Band are offering middle school and high school music teachers the opportunity to apply to participate in the inaugural class of a conducting workshop. Workshop leaders will be Dr. Juan Gallastegui, Music Director of the Rockville Concert Band and the Accord Symphony Orchestra, and Rachel Zephir, Music Director of the Rockville Brass Band and Director of Bands at Eleanor Roosevelt High School.Eligibility: Middle school and high school music teachers who teach in public or private schools located in Rockville or elsewhere in Montgomery County, Maryland. Eight teachers will be selected to participate, as described below. An auditor option will be open to elementary school teachers and other professionals.Goal: Provide podium time with the 60-piece Rockville Concert Band, a quality ensemble of adult amateur and professional musicians, to enhance practice and conducting techniques for teaching purposes. The eight selected teachers will have the opportunity to conduct for a minimum of 25 minutes on a designated evening with coaching from the workshop leaders. A limited numbers of teachers will be selected to be auditors, with the opportunity to observe without conducting.Repertoire: Repertoire will be selected by the workshop leaders and posted on the Rockville Concert Band website: rockvilleconcertband.org. Participants will be responsible for providing their own scores.Dates and Times: Tuesdays, May 2 and May 95 p.m.-8 p.m. Conducting exercises, review of score and other materials.8:15 p.m.-10:15 p.m Conducting Rockville Concert Band. A Johan de Meij Tribute

On April 10, 2022 The Rockville Concert Band will celebrate our 65th Anniversary with guest conductors Dr. Robert Tennyson, Dr. Vincent Patterson and John Saint Amour (all former Rockville Concert Band's Music Directors who led the band from 1978 to 2020).
Music Director Juan Gallastegui - Conductor conducts the World Premiere of Johan A. De Meij The Year 2020, a piece commissioned by the Rockville Concert Band and the City of Rockville.
The new Volunteer of the Year Award "Mimi McNeel" will be presented to the audience and will have our first recipient in a ceremony after the concert. Johan A. De Meij will join us in celebration of this milestone and the success of his piece, The Year 2020, which was award the 2nd Place and Honorable Mention at the 1st International Composition Contest of Filharmonica Imolese, Imola in Italy.
