Statement on Covid-19
Dear Rockville Concert Band Patrons,
We hope this letter finds you and yours safe and healthy during these challenging times. The musicians of the Rockville Concert Band would like to take a moment to say thank you for your continued support and patronage of our organization. We are sorry the impact of Covid19 did not allow us to perform our final concert of the 2019-2020 season for you. We certainly all miss performing right now, and miss seeing all of you in our audience. We look forward to the time when we are able to safely perform again at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre.
In the meantime, we, along with you, will do what is best for all of us, and remain safely distancing as we should. However, when the time comes that we can all be together again, we promise you a fabulous, heartfelt concert of the music you enjoy!
We have been using this time away from performing to keep busy. And while we cannot play with the band, we continue to grow musically. Our band members continue to practice…just at home, for the time being. A few of us have been on our porches performing music we have laying around, and our neighbors seem to enjoy it a great deal.
We also are planning some small ensemble rehearsals, with socially distanced seating, so that our members can “keep their chops in shape.” Those, too, are likely to take place in our own yards or appropriate settings. We have managed to make some recordings of various band members and small groups. You can find those at our YouTube channel or on our Facebook page. (YouTube, Facebook)
We continue to meet every Tuesday evening, as we have for over 60 years. Only now it is on Zoom. We use this time to discuss music, in many different contexts. We discuss how we can safely return to playing as a band. We research, read, learn and discuss the current thoughts on large ensembles performing under safe circumstances. Of course, we also use this time just to visit and be with one another!
When the band can safely perform, you can rest assured that we will be publicizing our return. It will give us great joy to perform again. At this time, we do not yet have a date for any indoor concerts, but we may have the opportunity to listen to recordings or outdoor concerts (in accordance with Montgomery County rules).
